 GMC Yukon

The used GMC Yukon was presented as the middle level option among GM's full-size SUVs. Based on price and equipment, the Yukon sits between the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade. Four-wheel drive was offered on the used Yukon Denali, as was seating configurations for up to nine occupants. The used GMC Yukon was presented in SLE, SLT and the luxury-oriented Denali trims. Denali models gained side blind zone alert systems as standard and two new paint colors: Crystal Red Tintcoat and Quicksilver Metallic.

If you are looking for a comfortable, beautiful vehicle with lots of space and every possible option to improve your driving experience the GMC Yukon Denali should top your list. The Denali model has the same engine as the Cadillac Escalade, a mighty 403-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 powerhouse. But the price factor on the Yukon is far more in line with an average buyer; and going with a previously owned vehicle keeps your budget even more intact.

The high-end used Yukon Denali brought standard features such as leather seating, 20-inch chrome aluminum wheels, and power liftgate XM NavTraffic. Extremely well appointed, the used GMC Yukon offered multiple optional packages including power sunroof, rear seat entertainment system as well as 22-inch wheels, with a rear and four-wheel drivetrain choice; the used Yukon is powered by a Vortec 5.3 liter V-8 engine, compared with the Yukon Denali model equipped with a 6.2 liter engine producing 403 horsepower.

Denali models come with chrome highlighted exterior trim and a power-operated liftgate. It can very spaciously accommodate up to nine passengers (including driver) when the bench seat are placed in all three rows. Some models replaced the first and second row benches with captain's chairs, lowering total seating capacity to seven. Third-row seating is standard on all models.

Make no mistake, the Yukon Denali offers plenty of space for passengers; when your numbers are reduced and the third-row removed, this Yukon has plenty of room for five passengers and their gear. A power-release fold-and-tumble second row seat, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, first- and second-row heated seats, and ultrasonic rear parking assist with rearview camera, rear seat DVD entertainment system with eight-inch screen were optional on all trim levels.

The Yukon was made available with either rear- or four-wheel drive. The Yukon Denali has an all-wheel-drive system that's distinct from the available part-time four-wheel drive on the regular Yukon. When properly equipped, the Yukon can tow up to 8,500 pounds.

The Yukon offers extremely refined ride quality and well-mannered handling for a large body-on-frame SUV. It also has sharp steering feel and feedback. The Yukon Denali’s lighter weight and shorter size makes it more fuel efficient and more maneuverable than the larger Yukon XL. The 6.2-liter’s 417 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 8300 pounds in rear-drive configuration; All-wheel-drive versions can tow up to 8100 pounds.

The Yukon comes with StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation standard. In the event of a rollover the roof-mounted head curtain airbags stay inflated longer to protect occupants until the vehicle comes to a stop. It also comes with driver and front passenger airbags. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and safety belt pretensioners with rear-impact deploy capability are standard.

Mitsubishi Outlander

Some interesting trends have been at play in the new Mitsubishi world.  Since late 2015, Mitsubishi’s evolution in the U.S. was said to be moving toward a domination of crossovers and electric powertrains.

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will fortify its fragile U.S. rebound with three electrified crossovers over the next few years, a bolstered regulatory listening post in Washington, D.C., and a new advanced technology office in Silicon Valley. Mitsubishi has stated that the Japanese carmaker will channel limited resources into a more compact lineup after closing its only U.S. assembly plant.

Mitsubishi is a strong contender in the SUVs and four-wheel drive market and that is why they've decided to focus on those as core models for the U.S. market. It just makes sense as a company that Mitsubishi should allocate more resources to the areas where they have a strong share of the market, and are very popular in the U.S.

That likely means no new sedan to succeed the aging Lancer and no dedicated electric vehicle to replace the subcompact i-MiEV.

Arriving toward the end of 2017 is a new crossover that will occupy a relatively tight spot between the more compact Outlander Sport and the midsize Outlander. Mitsubishi says this new crossover will have coupe-like styling and will be powered by either a conventional gas-powered engine or a plug-in hybrid system. The Mitusbishi eX that debuted at the 2015 Tokyo auto show was a likely a strong hint of what to expect for the new crossover.

Next up will be a redesigned Outlander expected to launch shortly after the all-new crossover model. Mitsubishi has delayed the U.S. launch of its Outlander plug-in hybrid, but says that model will finally arrive sometime next year, along with the sedan version of the subcompact Mirage.

Further down the line we’ll see the next-generation Outlander Sport, which is slated to arrive in the U.S. by 2019. That model will be offered with an optional all-electric powertrain, which will effectively replace the soon-to-be-discontinued i-MiEV as Mitsubishi’s EV model.

To keep the nameplates fresh until their full-model changes, Mitsubishi will roll out "big minor changes," such as the retooled Outlander Sport and face-lifted Mirage subcompact hatchback unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November.

Mitsubishi also will launch the Outlander PHEV, the plug-in hybrid version of the nameplate's current generation, in the U.S. in the middle of next year.

The other three coming crossovers will get electrified drivetrains as variants to the standard gasoline versions.

The redesigned Outlander and new crossover will get plug-in hybrid variants, while the Outlander Sport will go all-electric alongside its traditional gasoline model.

The Outlander and Mirage lineup overhauls come at the same time Mitsubishi is repositioning its crossover focus shift, an area which accounts for 58 percent of its U.S. volume. Its U.S. sales climbed 25 percent to 80,683 vehicles through October, thanks largely to booming crossover demand. Refocusing on crossovers will help Mitsubishi prioritize investments and cut costs and continue to improve and strengthen its current models.

 GMC Terrain

A compact SUV that could almost be considered a midsize, the Terrain comes through with a large cargo area and a roomy backseat. For 2016, some trims have added a new grille with stacked frames, and also redesigned the textured grille of Denali trims.

Exterior & Styling

The Terrain is related to the Chevrolet Equinox, but the Terrain has a good, rugged look and helps the little SUV appear bigger than it really is. Terrain is bigger than similar compact SUVs such as the Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester but it’s not by a large margin so you’ll be able to fit in same parking spaces!

On the highway, you notice the V-6’s power in a good way. You can cruise at higher speeds without the engine making as much noise as the competitors. The competition seem to be unable to match the hushed experience of the Terrain, which also exhibits limited wind noise.

Overall, the Terrain is a very comfortable car on the highway. In addition to the hushed cabin, the ride is among the best - easily superior to the smaller vehicles in the class.

The GMC Terrain Denali with the V-6 and all-wheel drive rated an estimated 16/23/18 mpg city/highway/combined. The Terrain is also available as a V-6 with two-wheel drive (17/24/20 mpg city/highway/combined) and with a four-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder models get 22/32/26 mpg with front-wheel drive and 20/29/23 mpg with the all-wheel drive.

Interior

The Denali trim level includes standard leather seats and leather-appointed door inserts as well as some wood-trim accents. The wood trim is subtle and suits the Terrain well. The seats draw particular praise for their comfort from many reviewers.

Interior room is another area where the Terrain shines: Up front, the center console is large enough to be a valuable storage area, but not so large that it cramps the occupants. But the real winner in the cab is probably the backseat features. There’s enough room to sit back there comfortably, even if you are tall and the occupant sitting in front of you has their seat fully slid back. The backseats both recline and slide forward and back. The Terrain rear seats have been named the most comfortable in the class by many reviewers.

Cargo & Storage

The Terrain has a very large, very useful cargo area. It’s at a good level that won’t cause too much stress and strain on shorter people. It is not as high off the ground as many similar vehicles and manages to be both wide and deep. There’s plenty of room to pack a lot of stuff for a weekend or week-long camping trip!

Cabin storage is good, with four cupholders up front; that deep, wide center console bin and a nice-sized cubby underneath the multimedia system that you’ll find yourself using consistently it’s so handy.

Safety

The 2016 GMC Terrain received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s highest rating of good in its crash tests.

A backup camera is standard, and there is an optional rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot warning and forward collision warning that kicks in at speeds greater than 25 mph.

Jeep Renegade

The subcompact SUV segment that the Renegade is part of is relatively new, but it's quickly gaining popularity as automakers look for new ways to appeal to car buyers who are more interested in SUVs and crossovers than traditional cars and sedans.

The Renegade has retained the style of a traditional SUV. It also retained a lot of the off-road capability which hasn’t been the case with other manufacturers. Jeep is one of the few brands that can pull this off and it is very successful with the Renegade. And there’s also a version of the Renegade for you whether you need a small SUV for everyday driving or for leaving the road far behind.

The Trailhawk model, for example, delivers big-time off-road performance without sacrificing on-road driving refinement.

Exterior & Styling

With its round headlights and seven-slot grille, there's no mistaking the Renegade for anything but a Jeep. The Renegade's upright, boxy shape allows the automaker to maintain more interior room even while slimming the SUV's small footprint.

The Trailhawk has a number of unique elements designed for off-road driving: It gets an extra 0.8 inches of ground clearance, for a total of 8.7 inches, along with front and rear tow hooks that are rated at twice the Renegade's gross vehicle weight in case you need to be yanked out of a ditch or pull someone else out. There are also skid plates for the front suspension, transmission, transfer case and gas tank, as well as different lower front trim that provides a better approach angle.

The little details that Jeep and other Chrysler models have been giving their cars lately are very attractive, and the Renegade is no exception. From the small seven-slot grille icon integrated into the headlights to the military-style "No Step" warning on the side sills have a certain amount of charm.

Ride quality is firm, but suspension responses are refined.

The Renegade features frequency selective damping struts from Koni, a Jeep first. Body roll is well controlled; the Renegade retains balance and firm grip even when navigating sharp, winding roads. The Renegade shows splendid poise on the highway, without any of the fading that some cars with this shorter wheelbase exhibit.

The Renegade's quiet cabin is extraordinary. Even with the SUV's boxy shape, wind noise is faint at highway speeds.

The Renegade offers a choice of two drivetrains, the base 160-horsepower, turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder is a smooth-revving, refined engine that teams exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. The light-effort clutch pedal and precise manual shifter are fun and give the driver a sporty feel.

Cargo & Storage

The cargo area measures 18.5 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded there's 50.8 cubic feet of cargo space. A removable, height-adjustable cargo-floor panel is standard.

Safety

A number of advanced safety features are optional. The Safety and Security Package includes a blind spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Advanced Technology Package adds lane departure warning and prevention, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and rear parking sensors. A backup camera is also optional.
